Throwing out, keeping in.

Today has been a very nostalgic day for me. I've gone through my old artwork, opening old dusty files and smiling at whatever I've found inside. I've found so many pictures full of memories, so many scribbles that have never been brought to life and so many paintings that never came to an end. A lot of them are the kind that have never been seen by the public, most of those even by anyone.

There's a significant amount of finished and unfinished art that artists end up keeping for themselves, art that other people might even like but that aren't good enough for the creator. Sometimes they may be good enough but just not significant enough. There's nothing special about them, nothing that makes them stand out. They're just another piece of canvas waisted for an okay painting, that's why it's easy to sometimes even throw good looking paintings away. That's what I decided to do today. There just isn't enough room. There are just too many paintings and too few shelfs.

Mom's always been so supportive of my art hobby. Everytime I try to throw old paintings out, I can hear her sigh "Oh my God, you're throwing these out?" as she finds the garbage bag from the front room. A few weeks after I usually find the unsuccessful pieces of my art hidden in some closet of hers. She was there for me at my first art exhibition opening and she helped me to be a part of this new one that's opening tomorrow. Five of my paintings will be at display for over a week. This one definitely goes out to my mom. I love you.
